Christianity & Ghost HuntingBy Angela Lowe Many people question how "ghost hunting" reconciles with Christianity. Some are afraid it will lead to demon possession, or believe the Bible forbids it. Like many of you, I was raised as a Christian. However, the women in my family - including my great-grandmother, grandmother, mother and aunts - were always very in touch with the spirit world. So it was not uncommon in my home to have discussions of "paranormal experiences". As a result, I never saw any conflict between Christianity and spirituality, and still don't. When we pray, what are we doing, if not talking to a spirit? When Jesus returned after his death, and spent time with his disciples, what was he, if not a spirit? There are many stories in the old testament of prophets "telling the future" - some even after death. Christianity teaches that we are spirits - only temporarily residing in these "jars of clay". It also teaches that there is a spirit world - where angels and demons battle for mankind. Satan rules the demons, and his goal is to stop us from fulfilling God's will for our lives - which is to be like Jesus. While angels serve as the messengers of God, to lead us toward his perfect will. How are we to listen to the angels, if we are not in tune to the spirit world? Another thing Christianity teaches is that there will be a judgment day - when Jesus will return, the dead will rise, and all will be judged. For me, that begs the question - where are we between our physical death, and judgment day? Is it so difficult to believe that once we are freed from these physical bodies, we would be free to spend time in this plane of existence? Perhaps to watch over our loved ones, perhaps to finish unfinished business? Recognizing that the Bible is true, that there are indeed spirits all around us, is what ghost hunting is all about. It is about seeking the truth. Isn't that the goal of Christians as well, to seek God's truth?
