Redfield Haunting |
|
Submitted by Tina Hice I graduated in May of that year and had to stay home that summer to take care of my step-dad because he was diagnosed with terminal cancer about 8 months earlier and my mom couldn't afford to take a leave from work or to hire anyone else to care for him. In the first part of August (1985), my step-dad passed away. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and had a close friend in the same Masonic lodge who lived down the street. This friend and his wife had a 12-year-old daughter (who I'll call Stacy) who became close to my mom during my step-dad's illness and would come to visit her both before and after he died. Because she was so young and easily upset about death and dying, Stacy's parents didn't allow her to attend my step-dad's funeral, nor did they discuss any details about the visitation or service in front of her. One day soon after the funeral, my mom was at home alone cleaning the house. Stacy called to ask if she could come and visit and my mom told her she could. When she arrived and rang the doorbell, Mom called to her to come on in, as she was in the back part of the house. After what seemed an unusually long time, Mom went to see where Stacy was. She was standing in the living room, looking down the hall. When mom asked what she was looking at, Stacy asked who was there. Mom
told her that they were the only two people in the house, but Stacy insisted
that she had just seen a man in a blue suit walking down the hall. Mom
took her by the hand and they checked each room to assure her that everything
was O.K., but my mom was very excited after Stacy left. My step-dad was wearing
a blue suit when he was buried. It was the same one he had worn when he
and my mom were married!! Lights would go off and on, telephones would continue ringing even after you answered them, and the lid on the kitchen garbage can would sail across the room for no reason. My husband was a witness to this last happening and was frightened when he first saw it. Mom would also leave the kitchen light on when she went out at night so the house wouldn't be so dark when she came back in and she eventually started asking my step-dad to leave the light on for her. On those occasions when she failed to ask, the light would be off when she came back. My mom sold the house and moved to Little Rock about a year later. I knew the people who bought the house, but had never discussed the haunted activities with them. They only lived in the house a few months before they were frightened by the things that continued to happen and moved to another location in the town. |
