The 1874 Hempstead County Courthouse as it appears today.

Hempstead County

The city of Washington, Arkansas was established in 1824. Once the hub of social and economic growth in southwestern Arkansas, Washington began to decline in 1873. It was still the county seat so an effort to re establish it as the center of political power was put forth by building a new Courthouse. The 1874 Courthouse remained active until 1939 when the county seat was moved to Hope. The 1874 County Courthouse now serves as the Visitor Center for the Historic Old Washington State Park.

Phenomena captured on film: Orbs in motion and orbs at rest. The orbs captured were mostly bright and well formed in nature. Most of the phenomena gathered was centered in the Judges Chamber, the hallway outside the Judges Chamber and the clerks office downstairs.

Summation: There were six of us on this investigation. We began by walking about the courthouse to get a feel for the place. While I was preparing to start the video Angie made brief contact on the second floor stair landing. She moved to the Judges Chamber next where she made contact again. She was carrying the digital camera. Violet was in the courtroom with Robin and Erin. Robin was taking temperature readings while Erin was checking for AC-EMF activity. When Violet went into the Judges Chamber she made contact for the first time. AC-EMF activity was detected in the Chamber also. Later in the evening more spirit contact was detected in the Clerks Office and courtroom. Violet and Angie tried to make contact via auto writing. By the end of the evening six spirits had been contacted. In the Judges Chamber four spirits made themselves known. One was Jeff; he was a white male convicted of the murder of a young woman named Julie but claims it was an accident. Another was George; he was a black male convicted of rape. Yet another was Charles, he was convicted of robbery. Finally a Judge Michael was contacted. Either the judge or Jeff had a last name of Mills. Violet made contact with a man named Francis in the courtroom. He was convicted of the murder of two girls. Toward the end of the night Angie and Violet both made contact with a man named Robert. He had been a record clerk in the Clerks Office. This contact was made in the clerk’s office on the first floor. We will attempt to verify these names and make an amended final report if necessary.
