Phenomena captured on
film: We arrived at 7:15 and started
the investigation. We had ten investigators for this location. It was a cool
night approximately 45 degrees clear and cold. We started out by send out the
investigators to the different corners of the cemetery. The activity started
almost immediately, at 7:30 investigator Melinda saw the apparition of a woman
clad in turn of the century dress. The figure quickly vanished almost as soon as
she focused her eyes on it. Not thirty minutes later investigator Alan and
Johnny heard someone call Alan’s name. Quizzing the group as to who had called
him, we were told by all investigators that no one had called him. Only a few
minutes later investigator Johnny saw what appeared to be an apparition taking
form from the waist down then quickly dissipating into the air. In describing
the pants he saw, we have determined that they were those of special units of
the Confederate Army, the pants being grey all over with a single black stripe
down the outside of the pant leg. The cemetery has several graves containing the
remains of Confederate soldiers.
At approximately 8:30
investigator Cindy was conducting an EVP session and while she was asking
questions, another investigator, Ashley, heard the name Seth whispered into her
ear. The voice did not record onto her voice recorder. At the same time, Ashley
was hearing the name Cindy saw the third apparition of the night, though it
appears it may have been the same woman seen earlier by Melinda.
At 8:55 investigator, DK
was conducting an EVP session and recorded the yell of someone/something that
was not heard by any of the investigators. The yell was too loud not to have
been heard by at least some of the investigators present. No one in the group
has ever heard a sound like that before.
At 9:00 investigators
Johnny and Melissa became so ill they had to sit out of the investigation for a
prolonged period. With investigator Melissa becoming so physically sick, she
vomited. Johnny described the feeling as “smoking an entire box of cigars at
once.” In addition, during this time, all investigators reported hearing
footfalls and rustling leaves all around the cemetery, with a bright red light
also being sighted by almost everyone. Upon investigation, there was no one in
the woods surrounding us.
One of the prevailing
stories about Mortar Creek cemetery is that while one is inside the cemetery,
rocks will be thrown at anyone who is there by unseen hands.
At 10:00 investigators DK
and Derrick were taking a break next to their vehicle when the sound of
something heavy and solid was thrown through the trees about thirty feet to
their right. The object struck a large oak and thudded to the ground. They both
proceeded to the edge of the woods from where the object came to investigate its
origin. They found no one in the woods that could have thrown an object that
large and get away through the rustling leaves without being heard. While
standing at the woods edge another, smaller rock was thrown above their heads
landing inside the cemetery grounds. A couple minutes later pieces of timber
from the trees above began to fall down upon them, the source of the thrown
rocks and timber could not be identified. However, we can say with certainty
that no person could have snuck up to the edge of the cemetery and thrown these
things. The dead rustling leaves, which were 2-4 inches deep, would have given
them away before they could have gotten out of view.
Summation: A group of nine investigators were used on this
investigation. The team psychic was John. We found the cemetery to be well kept
and free of undergrowth. Several of the investigators present had personal
experiences that may or may not have been captured on camera or with a voice
recorder. Being outside in a strange environment can tend to make hauntings hard
to prove.
Conclusion:
Is the Mortar Creek Cemetery of Greenbrier,
Arkansas haunted? We have a grading system that helps us to answer such
questions. We graded the evidence as follows; scientific evidence is photos,
video, EMF readings, Temperature readings and EVP. On a scale of 0 – 50 we gave
the scientific evidence gathered a 35. The evidence was there and was fairly
strong. Sensory evidence is that of the human five senses and on a scale of 0 –
25 we gave the sensory evidence a 15 because noises that I heard and sightings
of several investigators. The extra sensory evidence is the feelings of the
psychic and sensitive. On a scale of 0 – 25 we gave the extra sensory evidence a
12. The team psychic felt a presence and saw what he felt close to a grave that
would have been that of a person that could have been dressed as seen. The grand
total for this project is 72. With the number of personal experiences had at
this location with the EVP and photos, we have no choice but to conclude that
there is definitely paranormal activity at Mortar Creek cemetery. A follow up
investigation is being planned.
