The word "cemetery" often conjures up visions of dark and dreary parcels of property, fenced in with a broken-down white picket fence. Not so with Oakland Cemetery. It is a place of peace and rest. Big beautiful oak trees line the walks, with benches under many, to provide a place for the living to gather and remember their recently departed loved one. Acquired in 1860, Oakland Cemetery is one of Little Rock's oldest cemeteries and could very well be the most populated, with over 32,000 estimated graves. During the War Between the States, many confederate soldiers were buried in a mass trench-style grave marked by a single monument.

Our investigation was a short one conducted after a monthly meeting, with bugs a-plenty. One set of pictures which merit a close look are the ones taken at a mausoleum on the back side of the cemetery. Several pictures were taken with no results; then, never moving from the spot, several more photos were taken after asking the the spirits to come out and have their picture taken. An amazing number of orbs, that were not there before or after, were captured in a single frame. It does pay to be polite, even to the spirit world.
